Level 2 Award in Principles of COSHH (QCF)

The aim of the course is to provide essential knowledge and understanding of the control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH).

At the end of the course you will:

Understand the law relating to hazardous substances in the workplace

Understand how risk assessments contribute to the safe use of hazardous substances

Understand the precautions and procedures necessary to ensure the risks associated with hazardous substances are properly controlled.

This course is for all employees.

The course is divided into four interactive modules:

Module 1 – The basics. Learners will understand the different types of substances, how they are produced, how they get into our bodies and

how they can cause harm.

Module 2 – Legal duties. This module outlines the legal duties on employers and employees as well as exploring the consequences of failing to

comply with the law. A fun word-search game is used in this module to help

learners find out about the legal duties.

Module 3 – COSHH risk assessment. Learners are introduced to the concept of COSHH risk assessment. They will understand the basic process

of assessment including recognising substance-related hazards in the workplace.

Module 4 – Controlling the risks. This module explains the basic principles of risk control as they apply to hazardous substances. This includes

the control hierarchy as well as using personal protection.

Throughout the course, learners use a range of e-learning interactions including questions and quizzes, drag and drop interactions and free text

entry activities.

Each module ends with a knowledge-based multiple-choice question called a ‘check-point’ – testing one aspect of the learning from the

module.
